Church School

The Church School Program of St. George’s is a thriving program with 30 children and 4teachers.  We are blessed with dedicated teachers who diligently work hard each week in preparing lessons on understanding The Orthodox Faith and how we come to know, live, and love Our Lord Jesus Christ in living His Gospel Message everyday.

The Church School Program meets every Sunday in the Parish Fellowship Hall following Divine Liturgy from September through May. The children are taught the basics and fundamentals of The Orthodox Church, Her Faith and Teachings under the guidance of their teachers and Church School Coordinators.  This year the children will be learning about “Understanding The New Testament” under the direction of:

Matushka Katia Vansuch (Church School Coordinator/Teacher)

Mrs. Gretchen Judge (Teacher)            Mrs. Andrea Chmiel (Teacher)

Miss Sara Kfoury (Teacher)

JMrs. Natalie Huett (Assistant)          Mrs. Beth Mellas (Assistant)

The first Sunday of every month is designated as “Youth Sunday”.  The children, both boys and girls,  participate in the Divine Liturgy by fulfilling  various tasks, such as reading the Epistle, holding the Communion cloth, doing the collection, selling candles, and singing The Our Father.  The sermon on these particular Sundays are geared towards the children. A schedule is developed by Father Jason and the Sunday School teachers.

The Children also participate in the Monthly Parish Family along with many other parish activities as well as outreach ministry within the parish and the community.  The Church School Children organize the following Parish Outreach Ministry Projects each year:

OCMC Coin Boxes (Great Lent)

IOCC Souper Bowl of Caring Sunday (Super Bowl Sunday)

Buffalo City Mission (on-going)

Warm the Hearts Program/Feed the Homeless (Winter)

Baker’s Victory Christmas Gifts
